Was managing editor of "Vanity Fair" magazine, then a columnist for the New York "World." From 1920-29, he was drama editor of "Life" magazine and later became theater critic for "The New Yorker" magazine. In 1935, he won an Academy Award for best short subject, "How To Sleep."
